Welcome to 'Are you ready?'

Welcome to 'Are You ready', the on-line training needs analysis tool for prospective teachers of the Diploma. Whether you are based in a school or college, or are a work based training provider, if you are involved in Diploma teaching. 'Are You Ready' will help you identify those skills you already have, and areas where you may benefit from some further training.

How do I use 'Are you ready?'

'Are you ready?' is designed for individual use, to guide you as to the continuing professional development (CPD) you may need. 'Are you ready?' is not an appraisal or performance management tool, although we would encourage you to save or print out your results for discussion with your CPD coordinator or similar so that your training needs can be met.

What's it based on?

'Are You Ready' is based on the LLUK/TDA publication 'Training and Development Guidance for Teachers of the Diplomas' which identifies the generic teaching skills required by teachers of the Diploma. So you won't find anything here about your specialist knowledge; it's about those skills you need in addition to your specialist knowledge. 'Are You Ready' will reflect back where you see your strengths and potential areas for development, so be honest with your responses. The statements with which you are asked to agree or disagree are drawn from 'Training and Development Guidance for Teachers of the Diplomas' and the results simply put your responses in context.

How long should it take?

'Are you ready?' has been designed to be as straightforward as possible and should take no more than 20 minutes to complete.

Why should I register?

Registering will allow you to save the information you have entered at any point and return to it at a later date. So if you are interrupted while completing 'Are you ready' you can save your input and return to it later, without having to start over! You can also revisit 'Are you ready' once you have completed some training and change your inputs, so you have a record of how you are developing. Registering also means that we can get some idea of the overall training needs of all those 'registered' teachers who have completed 'Are you ready' - but only in percentage terms; the only person who has access to data with your name on it is you. 'Are you ready?' is hosted independently of LLUK and TDA to ensure the complete anonymity of those who register.
